Reduce Your Risk Of Computer Eyestrain With These 5 Tips

If you sit in front of a computer all day, you will likely develop eyestrain. This problem can range from red eyes, eyes twitching, and burning eyes. Below are 5 steps to help reduce your risk of this problem:

See Your Eye Doctor

To prevent computer vision problems, you should see your eye doctor for a routine examination. During the exam, make sure you tell the doctor how often you use your computer. The doctor will likely want to know how far away you sit from the computer screen, so know this information before you go. They will then test your eyesight from that specific distance, along with your regular eye test.

Minimize The Glare

If you have glare on finished surfaces, walls, and your computer screen, this can cause eyestrain. You can install an anti-glare screen on your computer monitor. If your walls are bright white, consider painting them a darker color with a matte finish to reduce glare.

If you currently wear glasses, talk with your eye doctor about anti-reflective coating. This coating can reduce the amount of light that reflects from the back and front surfaces of your glass lenses.

Upgrade Your Monitor

If you are using a tube style monitor, which is also called a CRT (cathode ray tube), replace it with a flat panel LCD monitor to help reduce eyestrain.  LCD monitors feature an anti-reflective surface. When purchasing a new LCD monitor, choose one that has the highest resolution. This type of monitor has much sharper images, which causes less strain on your eyes.

Adjust Display Brightness

Adjusting the brightness of your monitor to the same brightness as your surroundings helps with eyestrain.  You will likely have to play around with this a little until you get it right. You can change these settings on your display using an on-screen menu. These buttons are typically on the right side of the actual display. They should be marked so you can adjust the contrast and brightness. You may also see a button on the front of the monitor possibly labeled Menu. If so, press the button and follow the onscreen instructions.

Adjust the Text Size

Adjust the text size so you can see it comfortably. To do this, click the upper right corner of your screen, and then move the mouse pointer down. Click Search and then enter Display in the search box. Click Settings and then click Display.

You will see three options: smaller, medium, and larger. Choose the option that is most comfortable for you, and click Apply to save the settings. To learn more, or if you have other questions, try contacting a company like http://watsonvision.com/ for help.
